背棘 (總數): 12 - 15; 臀棘 0; 臀鰭軟條: 12 - 14. Subcylindrical body (Ref. 42908). Upper and lower jaw of equal length (Ref. 2835). Advanced dorsal fin with 12-15 dorsal finlets (Ref. 2835, Ref. 42908, Ref. 51884). Pectoral fin reaching first dorsal spine (Ref. 3032). Ganoid scales (Ref. 42904): 55-62 lateral line scales, 42-46 scales around body, 11-13 predorsal scales (Ref. 2835, Ref. 3032, Ref. 42908). Lateral line scales of adults are notched on the posterior border (Ref. 2756). The color is greenish-black with large black blotches on the flanks (Ref. 3023).
